Anchor Institutions

FaegreBD Consulting's distinctive experience with institutions of higher education and local government enabled the development of the firm's leading consulting services in this arena. Communities prosper when the principal local institutions have a shared vision and work to directly advance and benefit from that collaborative mission. FaegreBD Consulting plays a key role in developing strong coalitions and related projects that align the university-local government relationship.

Below are representative examples of our work bringing together universities, local government, hospitals and other institutional anchors to advance not only education but also the efforts of the local community.

  • Rural Health. FaegreBD Consulting worked on the creation of a multi-party rural health education, research, and economic development initiative that is transforming a regional economy. On behalf of multiple clients, FaegreBD Consulting worked to develop the coalition, which now includes a leading medical school, a state university, a community college, city government, and the leading economic development entity.
  • After-School Programming. In one college town, FaegreBD Consulting brought together the university and the surrounding city to advance a number of key education and downtown redevelopment projects. One of the resulting projects brought together city providers of after-school programs to develop a coordinated, evidence-based approach for addressing the needs of at-risk youth. The result is a distinctive model for university and community collaboration that can be adopted nationwide.
  • Multi-modal transit project. With a university and local city government client, FaegreBD Consulting led the effort to develop a multi-modal transit facility that provided the impetus for a comprehensive downtown revitalization initiative.  This collaborative effort sparked the demolition of a vacant building, the development of two new hotels, the creation of a downtown children's museum, and several other community assets.
